How to Replace the 616-0765, 616-0770, 616-0772 Battery in your Apple iPhone 6 Plus

Step 1

Power off your iPhone.
Remove the (2) pentalobe screws located on both sides of the lightning connector. Place the screws in a safe location for reassembly later.

Step 2

Press suction cup to the screen above the home button.
Be sure the suction cup is pressed securely and has a tight seal.

Step 3

Hold the iPhone down with one hand, and pull up on the suction cup so the front panel assembly slightly separates from the back case.
The front panel has a tight fit, so be sure to take your time and apply constant, firm pressure. Using a plastic opening tool, gently pry the back case away (down) while continuing to pull up with the suction cup.
There are clips that hold the front panel to the back case so you may need to use the suction cup along with the plastic opening tool to free the clips and the front panel.

Step 4

Pull on the plastic nub to release the vacuum seal of the suction cup and remove the suction cup.

Step 5

Pull the (home button) end of the front panel away from the rear case, take caution and use the top of the phone as a hinge.
PLEASE NOTE: When doing this step you want to keep the front panel supported at a 90º angle (in relation to the rear case) until you remove it. If you allow it to fall flat this will strain the display cables and their connections on the logic board and possibly result in damage or device issue.

Step 6

There are several clips along the top edge of the front panel that form partial hinge which allows the front panel to swing open like a book. When you reassemble the phone, you will need to align the clips just below the top edge of the rear case. Then, slide the front panel upward until its top edge is flush with the rear case.

Step 7

Remove the five Phillips screws securing the front panel cable bracket, we suggest labeling and placing items in a safe area for accurate reassembly later:
3 - 1.2 mm screws (shown below in red)
1 - 1.5 mm screw (shown below in orange)
1 - 2.9 mm screw (shown below in yellow)

Step 8

Carefully remove the bracket from the logic board. Tweezers may make removal of the bracket easier, place in a safe area for reassembly.

Step 9

During the next 4 steps be careful to only pry upwards on the cable connectors. Do not pull or pry on the sockets on the logic board.

Use the flat end of a plastic opening tool to disconnect the front-facing camera cable as well as the earpiece speaker cable from their sockets (these are 2 separate cables) - still support the front panel during this step.

Step 10

Use the flat end of a plastic opening tool to disconnect the home button cable connector.

Step 11

Using the flat end of a plastic opening tool, disconnect the display cable connector.
PLEASE NOTE: Be careful when reassembling your phone as the display data cable has been known to pop off of its connector. This will result in a blank screen or white lines across the screen when you power your device back on. If this occurs simply reconnect the cable and power cycle your phone. The best way to power cycle your phone is to disconnect and then reconnect the battery connector.

Step 12

Using the flat end of a plastic opening tool, disconnect the digitizer cable connector.

Step 13

Remove the front panel from the rear case.

Step 14

On the rear case, remove the one 2.3mm Phillips screw (show in red) and one 3.1mm Phillips screw (shown in orange) to release the metal battery connector bracket - label and place in a safe area for reassembly.

Step 15

Remove the metal battery connector bracket.

Step 16

Using a plastic opening tool, gently pry upward on the battery connector to release it from the socket on the board. Pry only upwards on the connector and not on the socket itself as you may break it or cause damage.

Step 17

Peel back the first piece of battery adhesive from the bottom right side of the battery. Use your fingers or tweezers to peel the tape back, take caution and do not use any tool which may puncture the lithium battery.
Gently pull the adhesive away from the battery downward toward the bottom of the phone taking care not to tear or rip the adhesive. Continue to pull until you can get the adhesive to slip out from between the rear case and the battery. When you can feel the resistance increase stop pulling and move to step 18.

Step 18

Once the resistance of the adhesive increases, gently pull it around the lower right hand corner of the battery.
Continue to pull the adhesive tab upward and away from the right side of the battery. This should allow for it to slowly slide out from between the battery and the rear case and eventually free from the phone. Take caution not to get it caught on the battery connector as it could tear or break.

Step 19

Peel back the second piece of battery adhesive from the bottom left side of the battery. Again, use your fingers or tweezers to peel the tape back and take caution to not use any tool which may puncture the lithium battery.
Gently pull the adhesive upward and away from the battery. Continue to pull until you can get the adhesive to slip out from between the rear case and the battery. When you can feel the resistance increase stop pulling and move to step 20.

Step 20

Once the resistance of the adhesive increases, gently pull it around the lower left corner of the battery.
Continue to pull the adhesive tab upward and away from the left side of the battery. This should allow for it to slowly slide out from between the battery and the rear case and eventually free from the phone. Take caution not to get it caught on the battery corner as it could tear or break.

Step 21

Finally, peel back the last adhesive tab from the bottom edge. Gently pull this tab upward and away from the battery which will allow for the adhesive to slide out from between the battery and the case. Continue to pull until this strip frees from the iPhone.
